How to choose a photographer.
This first step can be paralyzing for some people so I wanted to talk it out in hopes this will help you get going on creating the content you need to market this business you are so passionate about.
When you first start looking for a photographer you should absolutely ask your fellow entrepreneurs. If you don’t have any entrepreneurs to reach out to, do a quick google search for Branding Photographers in your area. Once you have a few names, dig into their social media & their website. Look for examples of their work so you can tell the style they shoot in. If their style differs from client to client, that’s because they are shooting for the client, not their own aesthetic, so don’t judge that too harshly. That’s actually what you want! You want to look to see if the quality of their work is consistent.
Once you have narrowed down your list even further, set up phone calls. You can tell a lot by a quick phone call or coffee chat. They will ask you your vision for your images, your goals and you should be prepared to answer. The key here is, did they listen to you or just spout off what they can do for you or who they’ve worked with before? This meeting is not about them, it is about you, the client! Typically by the end of my first phone call with a potential client, I can visualize what their specific shoot would look like.
Now that you’ve chatted with the potential photographers, they will be providing you with their quotes. I wish I could say this didn’t matter because our work is worth it but it absolutely matters! Some of us new entrepreneurs and are working on tight budgets. My suggestion here is to let them know your budget for the skill. They could have this grand vision for your photos and while it would be fabulous, they are typically capable of scaling down a bit to make it work for you. If it does turn out to be beyond what you can each work within, you can move on and hope to work with them in the future. Trust me, we get it! No hard feelings.
I hope this helps you get started because I just want to see you succeed!
Talk to you soon.
